Our Story

The concept for Bloc began in 2018 after stumbling upon a disused toilet block positioned at the front of Victoria Park, Cardiff. Quite simply, the space became available and we couldn’t let it pass us by. The small brick building had been out of use and boarded up for over 20 years, but for us, it was the perfect opportunity to bring something back to this thriving park.

The renovation of the building took around 6 months from start to finish; completely gutting the inside whilst ensuring we retained elements of original character. If you take a look when you’re inside, you’ll see some original brickwork and tiling. Needless to say, the building has now been transformed into a warm and inviting space, far exceeding the original intention of a cafe.

Our goal when opening Bloc was to offer something a little different. We’ve always aimed to use quality locally sourced ingredients, to work with other independent businesses and most importantly to make really tasty coffee.

Bloc has now grown into that dynamic business offering the community great coffee and fresh food through the day, and hosting parties, pop up events and language classes in the evening. In an ever changing landscape we’re excited to see in which direction Bloc goes, and we hope you enjoy the journey as much as we have.
